No one has ever said that being a parent is easy. No tip on earth can make this job a smooth one. You can be prepared for some of the trials that may come your way. Learning about the job of parenting will put you on the road to success.
Do not resort to yelling if your child has done something wrong or made you mad. Yelling does nothing but make your child fear you. Instead, lower yourself to their eye level and in a firm voice, explain to them what they did wrong and why they cannot do it again.
Teach your child through example. You cannot successfully teach your children right from wrong if you are constantly doing the things that you tell your child are wrong to do. They are bound to follow your lead so keep you actions and words in check when those little eyes and ears are upon you.
A great tip to help you become a better parent is to pack a healthy lunch for your child to bring to school. Don’t just send your kid off with a bag of potato chips. Make them a healthy sandwich and give them some carrots or other vegetables to snack on.
When you need to discipline your child, try to do it in private. If you scold him/her in front of others, it will embarrass your child and he/she will resent you for it. It also will not help your child make changes to improve his/her behavior. Help your child maintain his/her dignity, even while being disciplined.
Don’t force your child to study only one subject at a time. Studies show that humans learn better if they study two or more subjects at a time. This gives the brain a short period of rest to absorb material, and our brains also learn more effectively when subjects are integrated.
Help your child get organized for school the night before to avoid a stressful mad scramble in the morning. Make sure all papers, homework, library books, lunch money, and other needed items are safely tucked in your child’s backpack before going to bed. Then relax and have a stress free morning send off.
Get your child to do chores as soon as they’re able to understand what you’re saying. From an early age your toddler should be cleaning up their own toys. There is no harm in making it a game, and you can continue turning chores into competitions until your child is old enough to move out!
In order to be a good parent, you must not watch every single thing that your child does. This will smother them and only push them further away. If you give them some freedom, they will in turn put more truth into how they are feeling and how they are living their life. This way, the children are less likely to rebel.
